Minecraft Axolotls are passive and tameable aquatic mobs, introduced in the 1.17 version of Java and 1.17.0 version of Bedrock Edition. In the game, these small, colourful Axolotls, attack most of the underwater creatures. But, they are passive towards players and can be tamed and kept as the first underwater pet of Minecraft.
In reality, Aloxotls are small salamanders found in Mexico. This species of beautiful creatures are considered endangered. Hence, Mojang Studios added these mobs to the game to create awareness. And today, we will be discussing different aspects of these mobs in the game.
Where do the Axolotls spawn?
Minecraft Axolotls spawn in caves, as of the new update Caves and Cliffs. They naturally spawn on water, when blocks are placed above, in caves. They are found to be naturally spawned at y level being lower than 63. Nevertheless, they may be spawning randomly in water.
Appearance of Axolotls
Minecraft Axolotl is a small salamander-like creature, with a tail and limbs on the sides. They appear in five colours, i.e. pink, brown, gold, cyan, and blue.
Axolotls are named accordingly to their colours; for instance, the pink one is referred to as "Lucy" or "Leucistic", the brown one is called as "Wild", and the remaining are named as their colours, i.e. gold, cyan, and blue Axolotls.
The blue Axolotl is considered the rarest of them all. It is found in 1/1200 chances as compared to other Axolotls.
What mobs do Axolotls attack?
Axolotls can attack almost every underwater mob, either hostile or non-hostile. In Minecraft worlds, they prefer attacking hostiles mobs as compared to the non-hostiles. They do not attack Turtles and Dolphins. They also prey on fish and squids.
They can attack monsters such as Drowned, aiding the player. If they attack a non-hostile mob, there happens to be a cooldown of 2 minutes, before they can attack another non-hostile mob. Axolotls are having 2 hearts attacking strength.
Health, death and effects of Axolotls
Axotols are having 14 heart points or 7 hearts, hence they can stand against other mobs. However, these mobs do have some tricks of their own to play, while combating other mobs. When killed, they drop XP orbs.
Playing Dead:
When Axolotls are hurt or having half the health points, they jump on the ground and play dead for 10 seconds while dropping their bodies on the ground. Simultaneously, they gain their health back by Regeneration I, and monsters or hostile mobs ignore the regenerating Axolotls. There happens to be a 1/3 chance for an Axolotl to recover four health points by faking death and Regeneration I.
Survival on Land:
On land, Axolotls can survive up to 5 minutes out of water. While on the land, they always try to move towards the nearest water source. Additionally, they do not take damage during rain and thunderstorms, unlike other aquatic mobs who can only swim and cannot survive on land, and this also increases the survival chances of Axolotls in the game.
Lighting Hit:
When struck by lighting, Axolotls immediately die.
Extra Damage:
The colourful mobs take extra damage by Impaling enchantment for being aquatic mobs.
Special Effects:
If an Axolotl is fighting a mob, and the player kills the other mob and helps the Axolotl. It gives Regeneration I and removes the Mining Fatigue of the player.
How to tame Axolotls
In order to tame Axolotls, players have to pick them up in their buckets. Once picked, the mob in the Axolotl buckets are considered tamed. Hence, first, you have to catch these amphibians in buckets.
Next is up to the players, whether they want to go on marine adventures, fighting sea monsters, such as Drowned, Guardians etc, or release the tamed Axolotls into the water.
When following players, Axolotls can get distracted by their preys i.e. fish and squids. And, if a player goes too far, he may lose an Axolotl.
How to breed Axolotls
To breed two Axolotls, you have to feed them tropical fish. After being bred, a baby Axolotl will be born; but, after breeding, there will be a cool down for 5 minutes. Hence, Minecraft Axolotls can be bred by feeding them tropical fish.
It takes 20 minutes for babies to grow into adults. One bucket of tropical fish can be used to reduce the growth time by 10%.
