How to locate Ocean Monument in Minecraft

 

Ocean Monuments are rare structures found in deep ocean biomes, and they are underwater. It is a large structure under the body of water, where lots of loot can be found for players, seeking adventures. And,  it is the largest structure, where no chest is found, in the game. 

In Minecraft, this naturally generated structure comes with danger as well, since it is guarded by Guaridans and Elder Guardians (hostile mobs). In addition to that, underwater Monuments are having specific kind of blocks that can only be obtained from the Monument only. 

Here, we'll discuss about Ocean Monument, loot found within it, Gaurdians, and how to find a Monument. 

Where do the Ocean Monuments spawn or Generate 

Ocean Monuments can spawn underwater, in the game. They're naturally generated in those areas where deep oceans are found commonly in 16 block radius, and an aquatic biome (regular/deep/ frozen ocean, or regular/frozen river) within 29 block square radius from the center point of the Monument. 

What is the structure of Ocean Monument 

Ocean Monument is considered as the largest structure, found within deep oceans. The monument is e entirely made up of Prismarine blocks and Sea Lanterns are used as a source of light. 

It is divided into two large sections, called wings, and one central section. There are 23 large pillars which extend from top to the bottom of the structure.  The opening lies in front part of the central section.  It is the largest underwater structure with base size of 58x58 blocks. 

Loot in Ocean Monument 

Being the largest underwater structure, there is no chest within an Ocean Monument. However, the real loot lies in its structure and inside the Monument. 

The Monument is a source of certain unique blocks; it includes, Prismarine, Prismarine Bricks, Dark Prismarine, Sea Lantern, Block of Gold, and Wet Sponge. 

First, Prismarine is a type of stone, found in underwater structures; such as, Monument, and ruins. Its color varies gradually from blue to green. Next,  Prismarine Bricks are decorative blocks. Their color is blue with chiseled patterns. And, another one is Dark Prismarine, which is also a decorative block in dark green color, with a tight grid pattern on it.

And, Sea Lanterns are used for lighting purpose, hence they can be found easily within the Monument, and can be used for decorative and light purposes. 

Another thing is the Wet Sponges, they can only be found within the Monument. When dried either in furnace or placed in the Nether, they become  Sponge. A sponge is used to remove water.  Randomly, one or two rooms may be generated with around 30 Wet Sponges on the ceiling. 

To find Block of Gold, you have to enter the center room. There is a structure made up of Dark Prismarine Blocks, and inside that structure, 8 Blocks of Gold can be found, as treasure. 

Guardians of Ocean Monument 

There are two types of mobs that can be found guarding the Monument; one is Guardian, and other is Elder Guardian. 

First, Guardians spawn in bulk quantity than the Elder Guardians. They can be found outside as well as inside the structure. They are hostile mobs, hence they attack the players when near to them. 

Secondly, there can be found another mob, Elder Guardian. It is a larger and stronger variant of the Guardians. And, only three of them can be found inside the Monument. Elder Guardians give players Mining Fatigue effect that significantly slows down the mining speed. Two Elder Guardians spawn in each wing section, and one in the penthouse room or in the central section. When killed, they may drop Wet Sponge or Prismarine shards. 

How to locate or find Ocean Monument 

Ocean Monuments can be found underwater, in deep ocean biomes,  such as Deep Ocean, Deep Frozen Ocean, Deep Cold Ocean, Deep Lukewarm Ocean, and Deep Warm Ocean. 

However, an easier way to find Ocean Monuments, is to trade an explorer map with a Cartograpger villager. 

An explorer map is a unique kind of map that shows the locations of special structures such as Woodland Mansion, Ocean Monument, and buried treasure.  In the game, Apprentice leveled Cartographer vilagers trade Ocean explorer map for 13 emeralds and one compass. And,  for 14 emeralds and a compass, Journeyman leveled Cartographer villagers sell Woodland explorer maps.
