In Minecraft, sheep are the mobs that commonly spawn in many grassy biomes and do a lot to create beds, carpets and provide food. However, out of them, the Minecraft Pink Sheep is the rarest one and it is having only 0.164 per cent chances to spawn in the world, making Minecraft Pink Sheep Rarity,  a real thing.

Occurrence

There are 16 types of sheep in Minecraft and almost all the sheep in the majority spawn in white colour. Then, there comes the grey and light grey sheep in nature. Brown sheep are less common than the former categories. But, the Pink Sheep is considered even rarest than the rarer.

Following is the percentage of naturally spawning sheep in Minecraft world.

Sheep                      Chance
Adult Sheep                 95%
Adult White Sheep         77.7442%
Adult Black Sheep
Adult Gray Sheep

Adult Light Gray Sheep 14.25% (4.75% each)
Adult Brown Sheep          2.85%
Adult Pink Sheep          0.1558%
Baby Sheep                  5%
Baby White Sheep          4.0918%
Baby Black Sheep
Baby Gray Sheep
Baby Light Gray Sheep  0.75% (0.25% each)
Baby Brown Sheep          0.15%
Baby Pink Sheep          0.0082%

During the world generation, 2 to 3 sheep spawn on grass blocks at the surface with a light level of 7 or higher and at least 2 block space above, except in snowy tundras and wooded badlands plateaus. Individually, they spawn on grassy biomes later. Just 5% of lambs spawn.

In villages, 2 sheep can spawn in shepherd houses, butcher houses, and animal pens.

Pink Sheep

Pink Sheep is just as ordinary as other sheep in Minecraft; despite the fact, it is so rare that most of the players want to have it as a symbol of collection. This increased the popularity of Pink Sheep, and players used Pink Sheep in many youtube videos and articles that further boosted its fame.

Behaviour of Pink Sheep

Pink Sheep behaves like other sheep, i.e. a passive mob used for food and crafting purposes. It does not attack you back if you hit the sheep.
Sheep eat grass blocks and change them into dirt blocks; the same goes for the Pink Sheep as well.

Drops

The drop rate of the Pink Sheep is similar to normal sheep.
Following is the list of drops of a normal sheep in Minecraft:

  • 1 wool of the corresponding sheep who haven't had their wool regrown don't drop it.
  • 1–2  raw mutton (cooked mutton if killed while on fire). For each degree of Looting, the item number rate increases by one, up to a maximum of 1–5 for Looting III.
  • For each degree of Looting, the value rate increases by one, up to a maximum of 1–5 for Looting III.
  • If a player or tamed wolf kills a sheep, you will receive 1–3 xp points.
  • Sheep offer 1–3 number of wool when sheared and do not suffer any damage. After eating a grass stone, a sheared sheep regrows its wool.
  • 1–7 xp is dropped after a good breeding.
  • Killing a baby sheep or a lamb will not provide you with any items or experience.

Background

Pink sheep were added in Minecraft beta 1.2 update. Their rarity made them a show piece for games around the Minecraft world.

Achievement

In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, there is an achievement called "Rainbow Color", where a player has to collect all 16 colors of wool to complete this achievement. However, looking at the rarity of the Pink Sheep, players often dye a sheep pink; since it is easier than finding one with so rare occurrence.

If you happen to encounter one in your world, make sure not to kill that one.
